As I was at Oregon State University finishing my degree in Finance, I was planning on either going into the mortgage industry or the coffee industry (very different, I know). I met with the owner of a coffee roaster in the PDX area and mentioned my interest in the mortgage industry. He put me in touch with Michael Leland and the rest is history...not really; I originally applied for the "Rookie Loan Officer" program, but through interviews and follow-ups we all felt I would be a better fit on the processing team, and here I am.
In the kitchen or at the farmer's market. I'm vegan and really enjoy taking traditionally non-vegan things and turning them vegan. I also LOVE coffee. Not in a "I can't function without my Starbucks" kind of way, but more of a "I love everything about coffee, from farm to cup" kind of way. Not that there's anything wrong with Starbucks, but I like tasting the differences and nuances in small-batch, single origin coffees. That being said, you can find me in any of the MANY coffee shops or roasters in town.
I volunteer at Lighthouse Farm Sanctuary in Scio as much as I can. I love working with animals in general, but the animals at Lighthouse always remind me why I'm vegan.
I grew up in Los Angeles; the San Fernando Valley mainly. Short version of why I'm not there: after nearly 4 years of daily traffic jams, I decided I needed a change of scenery.
Be thorough in your planning, flexible in your approach, and kind in your actions.
